Захари Иванов e роден во 1946 година во село Ботановци, Бугарија. Студирал на универзитет во Киев, а дипломирал во Москва. Работел како уредник и програмски менаџер на Националната бугарска телевизија. Бил секретар на млади уметници од Бугарија. Активно се спротистави на властите во 1984 година и како резултат на тоа е уапсен и поминува повеќе од една година затвор. Над 60 интелектуалци во Бугарија ги кренаа своите гласови во негова одбрана. Шест од нив напишаа писмо до Тодор Живков. Успева да го добие судскиот процес благодарение на вештите  правници и храбриот и чесен судија. Ослободен е во 1986 година. Учествувал во еманципацијата и креирањето на бугарската карикатура и видео-уметност, но набргу отстранет од властите во 1989 година. Истата година го основа списанието за литература, музика и култура ГАМА. По кратко време, тоа е забрането и спречн е да го објавува. Тоа беше беше последното официјално списание забрането од бугарската држава. Захари Иванов, по 1990 година живеел во: Германија, САД, Грција и Австрија. Неговата поезија е преведена на руски, украински, полски, чешки, српски, германски, француски, шпански, португалски, англиски, турски, романски, грчки ...
Zahari Ivanov is born in 1946 in the village Botanovci, Bulgaria. He attended university in Kiev, graduated at Moscow. He worked as editor and program manager of National Bulgarian television. He was secretary of young artists of Bulgaria. He conflicted with authorities and was arrested in 1984 and spent more than a year in prison. Over 60 intellectuals in Bulgaria raised their voices in his defense. Six of them wrote a letter to Todor Zivkov. He was released in 1986. He won a trial thanks to skillful lawyers and brave and honest judge. He participated in emancipation and creation of Bulgarian cartoon and video art just to be eliminated from it by the authorities in 1989. The same year he started magazine for literature, music and culture GAMA. After short time, it was banned and precluded from publishing. It was officially the last magazine banned by Bulgarian country. Zahari Ivanov, after 1990 has lived in: Germany, the USA, Greece and Austria. His poetry was translated in Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Serbian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, English, Turkish, Romanian, Greek...
